Who We Are
Mission
The Mission of the Jayhawk Elementary School Rockin’ Hawks Choir is that every student will work together as a team to create an ensemble they can take pride in. Students will cultivate their talents and use them to better their community. Each choir member will develop proper vocal technique and be given a well-rounded music fundamentals background that will instill the performance skills needed to be an independent singer. This training will not only educate the students at a high level of musicianship, but also develop confidence within the students.
Rehearsal
Rehearsals are in the music room on TUESDAY and THURSDAY from 7:45-8:05am. During rehearsal, we will focus on proper singing technique, including breathing, posture, facial expression, and stage presence. We will also be learning to read music and sing using the solfege scale (do re me fa so la ti do). You will be expected to stand often and always sing out properly and loudly to the best of your ability. Students are also expected to eat breakfast before or after rehearsal and be present to class by 8:10am.
Eligibility
All students in grades 4-6 are eligible to participate in Rockin’ Hawks Choir.
Concert Attire
Each Rockin’ Hawks member will need to wear nice “Sunday best” clothes that adhere to the JES Dress Code for all performances.
Trips
Trips are an important part to having a well-rounded music program and help with recruitment and retention of music students. My goal for the Rockin’ Hawks is to have two performances each semester with at least one of those performances somewhere outside of school. Potential performance venues could include the Pleasanton Care Home, Mound City Community Center, or Sugar Mound Arts & Crafts Festival.
